Ronnie Mayhew, a native of Southside Virginia, graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Government in 2003. After receiving the Counselor’s Scholarship, he pursued his law degree from Ohio Northern University, where he earned a Juris Doctor with Distinction for his legal scholarship in 2006. The vast majority of Mr. Mayhew’s legal experience has been in criminal prosecution.

In 2004 he was chosen by the United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia for a legal internship with the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Mayhew worked almost exclusively on federal criminal matters during his internship where he worked on cases involving drugs, firearms, and financial crimes. In addition to working with federal prosecutors in the Roanoke, Virginia office, he also worked with special agents from the Internal Revenue Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, Postal Inspection Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This experience gave him a behind-the-scenes look at how federal investigations and prosecutions are handled.

Serving as a paralegal support specialist during an internship with the U.S. Department of the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Mr. Mayhew spent the summer of 2005 assisting military prosecutors within the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with courts-martial cases, investigations, and separation boards. Following this assignment, he returned to Ohio to complete his last year of law school. And during that final year, he became the only Ohio Northern University law student to land a legal internship with the Office of the Governor of Ohio. He was assigned to the Office of the Chief Legal Counsel to the Governor and advised the Governor on clemency and pardon issues, and was specifically charged with reviewing certain death penalty cases.

After completing law school, Mr. Mayhew returned to Virginia where he was appointed Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Danville. During his nearly two years with that office he prosecuted everything from traffic infractions to violent felonies. Mr. Mayhew also assisted in the investigation and prosecution of several murder cases.

Now as an Associate with SRIS, P.C., he is ready to put his extensive exposure to federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecution to work for you. Mr. Mayhew knows how prosecutors approach cases and thus will be better prepared to defend you if you are charged with a traffic or criminal offense in Virginia.
